Sounds good I really think this mod has potential!

However I think this mod would benefit from a bit of open development, so instead of keeping news in the dark you actually explain what you're going to do, when you're going to do it and perhaps even how you're going to do it. I'd say this would bring so much more support for the mod, have a look at http://www.wolfire.com as well, they've had a huge benefit from open development.

Open development in the sense of keeping a community updated is paramount. If that's what you mean, I whole-heartedly agree.

Quite frankly, if the mod wants to see any pickup, the team is going to need to be managed better than they ever have been. DPB doesn't exactly have a history of good project management--certainly no disrespect to Kuja or JMechy--everyone just felt out as we went along. To get this mod going again, it will need someone to oversee the project who is not involved in the day-to-day design and development. When you're stuck in the creation of a project, you neglect the people that you're creating it for even if you don't mean to.

Find out how much the contributors want to devote to the game, create a features roadmap and establish a realistic, tangible release schedule. Get these documents public. Embrace an agile approach and keep the community in the loop. Not going to meet a deadline? Let the community know in a blog post or on the forums; explain why and push the schedule appropriately.

The initial release does not need to be glorious or awe-inspiring: release early, release often. Updates to the community don't need to be works of art, either. As long as you're consistent and reliable in your message, the community will have your back and will continue to grow.

I'm sorry I got off-topic... maybe even a little more than standing on my soapbox preaching the good word.
